A Lovely Year of Finishes ... January

Last year I followed A Lovely Year of Finishes with the lovely Shanna and Melissa. It was a great incentive for me to finish some projects and I managed 9 finishes (admittedly only one of them was a quilt).

So I have decided to follow along again this year but I am resolved not to get stressed if I don't finish my aims!

A Lovely Year of Finishes

So my aim for January is to finish this baby quilt

I am currently in the process of hand sewing the hexies onto the background and then need to quilt it.

I haven't decided yet whether I will hand quilt in perle cotton or machine quilt (I can only straight line quilt at the moment on my machine). Or maybe a combination. Any suggestions will be gratefully received!

I am also linking this up with Hydeeann's "In Hand" EPP link party. A great place to see people's EPP progress and to share tips and advice on EPP.

  2. Lovely quilt Deborah! If you have time then hand quilting would be lovely, but as it is for a baby quilt maybe not that practical given the amount of washing it will undoubtedly be subject too :) Echo quilting is my default!

  7. the handquilting would be lovely, but it always takes more time. hard choice! maybe a combo would be a good idea. you could handquilt around the hexies and do straight lines for the rest?

love the colors and epp in the quilt. i'll be featuring it for In Hand this weekend, okay? =)

the blog looks great! you've got quite a following already.

  9. I like your combination of colours and quilting blocks/styles here. Are you able to stipple quilt? Stippling requires only straight stitch with feed dogs down while using a darning foot. Another thought is to straight line quilt the squared border strips (in the ditch of beside seams) then use a few diagonal lines of straight stitching running between the hexie diamonds on the solid grey with maybe one row of echo hand quilting around each hexie diamond.
It will be interesting to see how you choose to quilt in the end.

  10. Very cute! Hand quilting around the hexies and straight line on the rest of it is my suggestion.

  11. Love the hexies! The fabrics you are using are stunning! A combination of both quilting styles sounds like the way to go :)

  13. What a fun design! I would straight quilt some of it for durability, but hand stitching on or around the hexies would be super cute!!
